The Art Guild of Person
County was pleased to present the
People's Choice award to Roxboro
Community School
student Carleigh Barbour for her winning entry, "Rilee" in the
Guild's September member show. Art Guild Treasurer Toni Garrett presented the
$100 award to Carleigh during her art class at her school with her teacher,
Anne Bettendorf present.
According to Art Guild President Chrystal
Hardt, the People's Choice award was created to help encourage members to
submit entries for the Guild's member show. The People’s Choice award is
also a way to engage the community in an active way while visiting the Kirby
gallery and for the Guild members to get some feedback about what the community
most enjoys seeing. This year is the first year the award has been given
following a September member show to the Guild's first junior member.
Carleigh was very excited to receive the
Guild's award and said she plans to enter future shows. The subjects she
enjoys painting include landscapes and animals, and she also likes to work with
watercolors and pen and ink.
The Guild is now looking forward to its
holiday show themed "Glow". Guild members will be exhibiting their
work alongside the work of the students of Piedmont Community College
in the December show.
