Emerging Artist Grant Program

The Kirby Gallery, located at 213 N. Main Street, Roxboro, NC, is hosting the Durham Arts Council's emerging artist information session on August 7, 2012 at 6 PM. The Emerging Artists Grant Program provides career development grants to individual artists at turning points in their careers.  Top amount they can request is $1,500.  Applications are due at the Durham Arts Council on September 12.  Artists who are at least 18 and have been residents of Person County for at least one year on September 12 2012 are eligible.  The information session is just an informal discussion that allows applicants to ask questions and discuss possible projects.  Artists do not have to attend the information session to apply to the program, but we do recommend it. Please visit the Durham Arts Council website for more information and links to the applications. Please call Erin Ganey at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex 336-597-1709 if you plan to attend.

1st Art Guild of Person County scholarship awarded to Morgan Ayers

On Tuesday, April 3rd during the Piedmont Community College student art reception, student Morgan Ayers was awarded the first scholarship from the Art Guild of Person County

The scholarship fund was created when Ken and Marlene Coulter donated their winnings from Artfest prize money to help a Piedmont Community College student enrolled in the fine arts program. Because of their love for art and education and their belief of giving back to the community, they wanted to donate their winnings. The Art Guild, in following its mission to nurture artistic expression, donated the rest of the money that the Piedmont Community College Foundation needed to make this scholarship a reality.

The scholarship recipient Morgan Ayers is a 2011 graduate from Roxboro Community School and is completing her first year in the Fine Arts program at Piedmont Community College. Her goal is to graduate from PCC and transfer to UNC Greensboro to study graphic design and minor in dance. In Morgan’s first year at PCC she has been the Vice President and the President of the Creative Minds Club and has volunteered at StepN2TheArtZ. While at Roxboro Community School she was very active as Captain of the Color Guard, member of the Art Club, Student Council Secretary, and founder and President of the French Club.

Morgan, as well as several other students of Piedmont Community College, also received a student membership for a year to the Art Guild of Person County. Other students receiving a free membership are Virginia Nix, Lance Cook, Ronnie Blevins and Justin Ashley.
