29th Annual BAL Fine Arts Competition

The Burlington Artists League in conjunction with the BAL Fine Arts Gallery will be hosting the 29th Annual Fine Arts Competition that will be open to the public. Opening Reception is on Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Best In Show cash Awards will be as follows: $250.00 First place; $200.00 Second place; and $150.00 Third place. Additionally 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention non-cash recognition ribbons will be awarded to each entry category and all awards will be announced at the reception. All eighteen years or older artists are welcome to submit art for the competition.

Entry Requirements:

Submit Artwork either Tuesday, Sept. 25 or Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 from 1:00 to 7:00 pm at the Burlington Artists League Fine Arts Gallery. Entry forms must be completed and fees submitted at the time art is received.

Only original composition works by the artist, completed in the past two years, in drawing, painting, graphic art, collage, photography, sculpture, jewelry and mixed media, will be accepted and judged.

The entry fee is $30.00 for non-members and $15.00 for members of the Burlington Artists League that have joined at least 30 days prior to the competition entry date. This fee enables the artist to present up to three pieces for the competition.

The Burlington Artists League welcomes new members for an annual membership fee of $25.00. The forms are available at the Gallery or online at: http://www.BALartists.com

About the Art Guild of Person County

The Art Guild meets the first Tuesday of the month at 3pm at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex. The Kirby is located at 213 North Main Street, Roxboro, Nc 27573, (336) 597-1709, kirby.theater@personcounty.net.

The purpose of this Art Guild shall be to encourage, provide exhibition opportunities, give constructive criticism, and prompt discussion of the work of area artists and to promote the awareness and enjoyment of the visual arts in this community.

Located in Roxboro, NC, the Art Guild of Person County is a nonprofit organization which is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. It is open to all artists 16 years of age and older. There are monthly meetings and paid members participate in a variety of showings. You do not have to be a resident of Person County to join. Membership dues are $25 for individuals per year or $40 for a family.

The Guild also welcomes patrons and businesses to donate time and money to help off set the cost of publications and prize money for shows.

History:

The Art Guild of Person County became a reality in 1995 after a handful of determined artists and patrons began working together to exchange ideas about ways to promote art in the Roxboro community. From its inception, members used some of their own funds and resources along with grants to purchase the appropriate tools and to fund projects to carry out the mission of promoting the visual arts in Person County.

There are many components that make up a successful art guild offering a variety of artwork in mediums such as pottery, wood, sculpture, oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, pencil, colored pencil, photography, and computer art. This diversity exists in the Art Guild of Person County.

The Guild partners with Piedmont Community College, area schools, and others to present art demonstrations and workshops to educate interested people on a particular specialty, and to display their craft. An annual contest called “Artfest” held in May for members and non-members finds many local and regional artisans competing for “Best in Show” and 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd places in 4 categories.
